Kava Kava has been used in herbal remedies to treat anxiety, tension and restlessness.
Both the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have warned that Kava Kava (Piper Methysticum) could be linked to liver toxicity. CAP understands that regulations ban the sale, possession for sale, offer, exposure or advertisement for sale and the importation into England from outside the UK, of any food consisting of, or containing, kava kava.
Marketers should check with the FSA on www.food.gov.uk and the MHRA on www.mhra.gov.uk.
