At the end of 2004, the Medicines and Healthcare products Agency (MHRA) alerted CAP to a problem with a product called Lipostabil and sold under different names, such as Flabjab, Lipomelt, Lipodissolve and Fat-Away. CAP understands that the product is promoted as a cosmetic treatment for the reduction of fat.
The MHRA has informed us that Lipostabil is an intravenous preparation of phosphatidycholine, is for the prevention and treatment of blood vessel blockages caused by fat particles (fat embolism) and is therefore a medicinal product. Marketers should not advertise the product directly to the public.
More information is available from the MHRA.
