Special edition of Insight:

Changes to 0845 and 0870 numbers

On 16 January 2009 BT changed the way that residential customers on its most popular package will be charged for calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers.

0845

CAP now recommends that pricing information about the cost of calls does not have to be included in marketing communications containing 0845 numbers because the cost of calling is now always lower than the cost of a standard call on BT’s most popular residential package (the Unlimited Weekend Plan).

0870

The cost of calling an 0870 number during weekday daytimes however is higher than the standard rate on the (Unlimited Weekend Plan).  On this basis CAP recommends that ads with 0870 numbers should contain a disclaimer which states:

“Daytime calls cost up to 8p plus 6ppm from BT lines Mon-Fri. Mobile and other providers’ charges may vary”.

I hope this advice is of use to you – if you have any questions please feel free to let me know.

Yours sincerely
